Lizzie Lee is a vocalist praised for her élan and vocal acrobatics, whose career spans the worlds of classical and jazz. After building an international reputation as a classical artist, performing on stages across Europe, Asia and the United States, Lee established herself as an artist of remarkable technical command and expressive range.Opera Magazine praised her “brilliant coloratura work,” highlighting the virtuosity that became a hallmark of her classical performances.
Lee’s debut album, 72nd Street, was recorded at the legendary Van Gelder Studio and features Joe Farnsworth, John Webber, Stacy Dillard and Joe Block. Eight jazz standards in three languages, reflecting her international training and passion for cultures, we hear Lee’s emotional and virtuosic range — moving effortlessly between sultry, smoky, soaring and spontaneous. Guitar legend Bill Frisell called her work “absolutely stunning.”
After years of lighting up opera houses and recital halls, Lee found herself drawn toward greater creative freedom beyond the rigor and precision of classical music’s more defined form. She discovered that jazz offered something completely unknown —an approach to music where her virtuosity could meet spontaneity, opening new avenues for collaboration and fresh ways of bringing a song to life.
Lee has performed at Staatstheater Darmstadt under the direction of Maestro Ruth Reinhardt, Teo Otto Theater (Remscheid), Thailand Cultural Center (Bangkok), American Church (Paris), European Music Institute in Vienna with Maestro Francisco Araiza, Coeur D'Alene Symphony (Idaho), and New York venues including The Bitter End and The Django alongside Joe Farnsworth, among others. Additional collaborations include appearances with Jenaer Philharmonie, Bergische Symphoniker, and Zadig Trio with the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel (Brussels). She has also worked with artists from the Metropolitan Opera, Opéra Bastille, and the Royal Opera House, including Martina Arroyo and Dalton Baldwin and others, reflecting her extensive international training and classical foundation.
Alongside her performing career, Lizzie is passionate about creating new platforms for artists and audiences to connect. She is currently co-producing a concert series at the Arts Club of Washington DC and recently co-founded a women’s artist collective in New York City in partnership with the Catharsis Arts Foundation and Atelier Jolie.
